Loving gaze

by Sanjida Shaheed

She tucked
Her stomach in
And a part
Of her self-image
That she didn’t want
The world to see.

The world –
busy with its
Everyday nothing –
Did not notice
The pain she veiled
With her smiles.

She escaped
The long, unloving fingers
Of apathetic gaze.

Deep down
She craved
For a loving look
That would see
Beneath her shell.

Between ego and soul,
She chose to close
Her eyes
And walk away
From it all.

Looking inside
She found Him.
Looking at her.
With unconditional love.
Making her whole.
